City and township officials who enforce the zoning rules around Lake Charlevoix play a key role in protecting the appearance and functioning of our shores. As the guardian of the lake, Lake Charlevoix board members met Sept. 15 with the zoning administrators from five municipalities bordering the lake to get their ideas about ways LCA can be helpful to them.
The meeting was an early step in an emerging LCA focus on shoreline protection. Joe Kimmell, chairman of the Shoreline team, described the educational and promotion objectives of LCA’s effort and solicited comments from the administrators. The zoning officials, from Boyne City, Charlevoix, East Jordan and Evangeline and Eveline Townships, offered suggestions on topics for homeowner education, shared a few of their experiences, and indicated an interest in meeting several times a year to keep everyone abreast of the program.
